PICTON — Fire caused an estimated $300,000 damage to a small engine repair shop on Loyalist Parkway, between Picton and Bloomfield Monday evening.

Firefighters from Hallowell were called to the facility at 5 p.m. when a tenant noticed smoke as he was leaving work for the day.

Fire Chief Scott Manlow said 30 firefighters from Hallowell, and later Picton, remained on scene for close to five hours distinguishing the blaze, while a few remained overnight.

"The guys were getting tired so we brought in some help from Picton and then left a skeleton crew on scene overnight to maintain the scene," he said. "We were able to determine the cause of fire was electrical in nature."

In addition to damage to the building, a number of ATVs and snowmobiles were damaged by the fire.

Manlow said aside from the man leaving work for the day who reported the fire, there was no one else in the shop and there were no injuries.

Porter, TX (January 5, 2010) - Performance lubricant manufacturer Royal Purple and Stark Motor Racing today announced that they are seeking requests for racing proposals for the upcoming 2010 season. They seek dynamic professional and amateur racers who have an interest in primary sponsorships for the month(s) of April and/or May 2010. They will be accepting proposals from automotive, truck, motorcycle, off-road and marine racers.

"We're looking for racers and teams that really connect with tech-savvy fans" said Royal Purple VP of Sales & Marketing Mark McFann. "It doesn't matter whether it's drifting, circle track, straight track, whatever...we just want racers that connect with fans".

Royal Purple was selected as the preferred motor oil for Stark Motor Racing. The selection was based on Royal Purple's reputation for producing lubricants that enhance performance, as well as reduce the impact on the environment.

Royal Purple is expected to use the alliance with Stark Motor Racing as a launching pad for its new racing oil XPR 3.1. The product launch is planned for late spring 2010.

Man killed in Battle Creek forklift accident - WWMT

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Police in Battle Creek say a forklift crushed and killed a 52-year-old man at Hi-Lex Corporation on Wayne Road late Tuesday morning.

Police received a call around 10:45 Tuesday about an industrial accident at the Fort Custer Industrial Park. That's where they say a man was killed instantly at the Hi-Lex Corporation.

According to police the victim, 52-year-old John Barlow, was operating a forklift behind the building when several large plastic crates fell onto him.

Newschannel 3 spoke with police about Tuesday's tragic accident.

"It appears that he was moving some stacking crates," said Sgt. Carter Bright of the Battle Creek Police, "knocked him off the forklift, pinned him under it, and was crushed."

Police say Barlow was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do say the death appears to be an accident, but they are continuing their investigation. The exact cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.

Hi-Lex produces technology for the auto industry, that includes control cables, window regulators, and door modules. They also make products for ATVs, personal watercraft, and golf carts.
